Assemblages | Polymer Clay

My use of this man-made material started with the need to create pieces to complete the mixed media compositions. Pliable and simple to work with, the moldable clay bakes in the oven and accepts acrylic paint beautifully. Once the clay is cured, I carve into it to make pieces fit together before painting each as a cast member. For example, in the Lure Thief her hair and face are sculpted in polymer clay. I soon found myself creating large fish assemblages like the King Salmon series where many little fish find safety in numbers. It is the dream of all little fish to be big fish.
